The third and final volume of the trilogy DECADES – Graffiti in Berlin (Vol. 1 1990–2000 / Vol. 2 2000–2010), which presents 30 years of graffiti in Berlin, is now eagerly awaited. With a selection of thousands of photos, a comprehensive view of the development of the graffiti subculture in Berlin is created. In addition to the many illustrations, a large number of personal texts by the writers provide a unique insight into their experiences and perspectives. In these remarks, the developments of the last decade are described in very different ways and, through sometimes very personal remarks, the diversity but also the common ground of the Berlin graffiti writers are made tangible for the reader.
The third volume 2010–2020 contains portraits with many photos and personal texts on the following graffiti writers and crews:
ABIS, BOKS, DROW, IXAP, KGO, LION, JEICO, MATEZ, OLDI, ROCCO, SIEGER, TRASH, TRUS, QUIS, WILD // CLUBS, FB, HELL, OFF, RWRZ, SMS, TBA, TCK
There are also mixed chapters in the book, which show the development of many other graffiti writers and crews in this decade with hundreds of photos. Berlin's graffiti in the 10s was characterized by the influx of many writers from all parts of the world. Berlin has also developed into the place to be and a world metropolis, especially for graffiti on trains. This is largely due to the fact that painted subways ran more and more from 2010 onwards and at the end of the decade "the system was blown up". New techniques and competition among writers, which was stimulated even more by the visibility of the subway graffiti, increased the quality of the execution of the pieces. At the same time, the documentation of graffiti has increased immensely and gained in professionalism. Due to these many different sub-areas in the development history 2010–2020, there was an extremely large amount of material to process in the third volume, making it perhaps the most diverse edition of the DECADES series.

Volume 1
I grew up in the Bronx New York, and graffiti, hip hop, and break dancing was the expression of time. I always loved the arts of expression, and in these times, it seems like those liberties are fading. I want to create books that will not only let people view the art that moved me so much, but to allow them to join in on the fun and actually get the feel of understanding the art, by tracing over my pieces until they learn to create their own styles. Upon completing their first piece, they will fall in love with creating graphic masterpieces. SKIP and COAST from STYLEMASTERS.

What Happens When a Machine and a Graffiti Writer Collaborate? This book explores that intriguing question, as Alone HM, Alsino Skowronnek, Theodor Guelat, and Team Flight Mode embark on a bold journey into uncharted creative territory.
The result is a series of extraordinary works shaped by the interplay of human artistry and artificial intelligence: some pieces partially painted by machines, others painted onto machines—merging neural networks with railway networks.Gradient Descent captures the spirit of innovation, experimentation, and transformation.
It bridges the gap between traditional graffiti aesthetics and the digital age, preserving core principles while sometimes breaking them entirely. This is a story of redefining boundaries and pushing the limits of what graffiti can be in a modern, tech-driven world.

Cholo Writing is the 20th century’s oldest form of graffiti, a Mexican-American phenomenon evident in Los Angeles long before the appearance of tags and pieces in New York. It has had a major influence on the visual expressions of Californian culture, including the lowrider, surf, skate and hip-hop movements.
This volume documents the aesthetic evolution of the form."Placas" are territorial inscriptions created to define a gang’s turf, a genuine, constantly evolving urban calligraphy with strict codes used by Latino gangs for street writing since the late 1930s. Here, the aesthetic evolution of Cholo Writing is documented and the influence of blackletter typefaces and calligraphic models such as Old English is traced through two collections of photographs. One by Californian Howard Gribble, who photographed Chicano gang graffiti over a wide geographic area in the early 1970s, and one by French graphic designer and writer François Chastanet, who traveled to the same Los Angeles neighborhoods in 2008 to document early 21st century inscriptions.
The main essay of this second edition has been updated according to the latest historical research on lettering sources. With foreword by Dr. Chaz Bojórquez, East Los Angeles graffiti pioneer and Godfather of West Coast Cholo Writing for over 50 years.

There are some name-writing graffiti artists that are arguably reminiscent of the 20th century Expressionists and their self-referential positions.
Using the example of Basel graffiti legend Sigi DARE von Koeding, who died at an early age, the author explores whether everything that Expressionism originally represented and still stands for today can be rediscovered in the brightly coloured, expressive works of one of the best name-writers.
